Labor Day marathon!!

I’m committed! A three day weekend helps a lot. Here’s a rough outline of a plan:

  • Prep Saturday
  • Wake up early/ontime Sunday and go for it (6AM-noon)
  • Go swimming at the end of it because it will be HAWT

Some things I want to do:

  • Make an interesting breakfast
  • Make wooden pair swords (prep for fusion sword?)
  • Measure and draft for closet project
  • Fix towel hanger
  • Make infinite card from pics (pose each one at separate time)?
  • Something sewing related (don’t know what yet)

Also considering options for lunch…

And some exercises:

  • 1st: run
  • Hip stretches
  • Other runs
  • Practice sword kata (use escrima?)
    • This means the swords have to come relatively early
  • End with swim

Man work is intense

My new job really takes a lot out of me, and right now I’m in 50-hr-week crunch time, but I still dream of crafting!!!

I’m also legendarily out of shape right now so even basic walking/running would be helpful for the body.

Plus there’s some cool Kimetsu no Yaiba ideas I want to investigate. I will try to do something in March when things hopefully (?) settle down at work and I can catch up on me time.

Some cool ideas:

  • Fusion Sword
  • Demon Slayer crafting
  • Endless transformation card
  • Quadball updates
  • Also cooking a new experimental lunch was one of my favorite things about Q4, bring it back!

Wish me luck!

Back from the dead

So I didn’t get to do a quarter marathon on spring break, because my mom’s health got worse so I went up to visit. Then I moved to Houston and got a new job, and it’s way too hot to run outside right now anyway. So right now I have to deal with this:

I’m not really sure I believe this graph, it’s definitely breaking 95° every day right now.

So if I want to do this I either need to go late (like 4pm-10pm or something) or wait until like October.

In the meantime I can plan my route though!

It’s a nice neighborhood!

A half mile is pretty easy to achieve just by running around two blocks in the neighborhood. If I want the full mile I can do a loop through the Buffalo Greenway park.

As for what needs doing, I will start laying the groundwork for a few projects:

  • Something sewing related
  • The infinite cards idea is still on the table
  • New ref cards! For quadball!
  • No computer stuff, my new day job is 100% computer stuff

And more things to come soon! Let’s aim for late September for a new marathon?? October might get busy with FFF.

Spring break

The semester is in full swing, but I will have spring break to myself and I would like to do a Quarter Marathon then! This is my last semester at VC, so this summer will be a time of radical transformation no matter what happens, so it would be nice to do something fun and familiar!

If I haven’t finalized publication of Sorcery Clans 1.4.0 by then, I need to do that. I’m playtesting and having fun with it for now. Finding little things that need updating in the Angel stuff, and should probably play through a Black game before the spring break.

The main thing I want to do is the Endless Transformation Card, and I also want to sew snitch stuff and maybe some headbands. I also need to start trimming down stuff in case we move.

Let’s make it happen!

COVID

Literally the day after I made the last post Karen came down with COVID, and then I got symptoms as well. So missed my chance! This week is convocation week and this weekend is Slamta Claus, so this week is just exercising to try and be ready for that.

Gotta collect new projects also. Probably not too many computer/mathy ones since I am probably going to aim for having a computer/mathy job (OR MAYBE THAT’S WHY I SHOULD HAVE MORE??).

Probably adding new features in Sorcery Clans is still good though,

Ideas for Q5

Hey!! I’m feeling a lot better from surgery and also, I don’t know why I didn’t check before, but it turns out the apartment building is exactly a half mile around!! Wow!!

I have this week coming up off and then next week also but Karen is back to work next week so maybe I can get Q5 in on that week. Aiming maybe for like 1/5/22.

What are some things I want to do?

  • GOALS
    • Test out the ol’ fitbit
    • Get ready for SLAMTA CLAUS
    • Go into the new year with no regrets
  • IDEAS
    • Code stuff
      • Python
      • Sorcery Clans (publish 1.4.0!!!!!!1)
      • R/SQL
      • Kaggle
    • Crafts
      • Looking for good ideas here
    • Writing!

More to come soon!

Target for Q4: Wednesday

Been busy and also needed to rest the hip some, so this week is my last chance to do a good marathon. Here is an outline of the plan:

  • Pick a lunch experiment FIRST THING in the marathon and make it for lunch
  • Plaster the mask (so paper mache’ing needs to be done)
  • Finalize and mail the H2PQ package!!
  • Sewing (include follow up on any orders made)
  • Painting?

Add more here.

Breakdown of Q3 + Prep for Q4

So Q3 was a success considering I’m still in recovery (under 4 months since surgery) and I was PRETTY BUSHED by the last hour or two but I stayed active anyway, which is great!

I did not get a chance to do two things I wanted to, the escobas arriba and the ANBU mask, so I want to get some stuff done for EA this weekend and hopefully also print the mask and make the cardboard in advance. That way I can either do the paper mache or the plastering on Q4. I think I should do Q4 on like a Tuesday or Wednesday, partially because I should really do schoolwork before it, and partially so I have the rest of the week to pick up stuff I didn’t get to on it.

I want to also start scouting martial arts places, but maybe the big planning for that can also be in Q4, maybe with a poster or website or something.

I’ve been playing DDR and quidditch since Q3 and I think I’m getting stronger bit by bit so it will be a good thing to keep my pace up. LET’S GOOOO!

Prep for Q3 tomorrow

Going to drop off my wife at 9AM, so probably will hold the marathon between 9:30 and 3:30. I’m going to start with a rowing and see how it goes from there. The doctor did recommend the stationary bike but the one we have at the gym is too low tech for me, I want to have a distance to work towards each leg. If my hip gets problematic I’ll swap the rowing or cardio for the full set of hip stretches and exercises.

The Officially Approved Marathon Activity List™ is as follows:

  • Clean & organize art room
  • Make the cardboard base of a new ANBU mask
  • Select a novel lunch (and buy whatever’s needed at Kroger if necessary)
  • Hit the local print shop(s) and investigate options for printing
  • Make demo websites for QTO project
    • spartans.victoriaquidditch.org already installed but make it good
    • vcqc.victoriaquidditch.org install and setup
    • team.victoriaquidditch.org install and setup
  • Work on Escobas Arriba
  • Record a podcast (prep for publication also!)
  • Sew some more snitch shorts
  • Sew a cover for that last pillow
  • Use up the rest of the PEX to make more quidditch hoops

I will be stunned if I actually get through all of these, but making a huge dent in them will be great regardless! Also you’ll note no Sorcery Clans included, because that could easily eat up the whole day, and a big part of the appeal of the Creative Marathon is the VARIETY!

I would very much like to do another marathon next week and do pickups on things that are two-parters (especially the mask but also website stuff, etc) so we’ll see how it goes

Good luck tomorrow!!

Starting over on Q3

So I got busy with work, and then my hip got worse so I finally had surgery in March. Now I’m starting to be well enough to consider a new marathon since I have about 1.5 months off.

Here are some projects, in no particular order, I would like to work on:

  • New ANBU mask/Meowscles mask
  • Homemade forehead protector (I saw one on YouTube!)
  • Website work (probably make some demo VQ Spartans websites for the project)
  • Investigate new printing shop nearby
  • Sewing:
    • More snitch shorts
    • Snitch tails/experiments
    • Headbands
    • Pillow
    • Ankle weight
  • Reorganize art room
  • Podcast prep + recording

Also now that I’ve moved, and am still in recovery, the exercise of choice needs to change:

  • Stationary bike
    • Preferred option, sadly it’s low-tech so doesn’t have a distance but can probably estimate a bike time
  • Treadmill or elliptical
    • Also an option
  • Run around the block
    • It’s probably too hot for that

A third thing to consider is WHEN!

  • Preferably very soon so I can do more than one if my body can handle it.
    • Maybe Thursday 7/8 can be the first? While my wife is at work all day, and it helps that I have to be up on time to drop her off at work
  • Definitely no sooner than that because I have a doctor meeting on Wednesday 7/7 and I should check in with him on my physical activity
  • Would like to do at least one more on the break as well.
